Immobilizers are the dominating security solution for cars against theft. As they are built on RFID transponders operating at 125kHz, it is necessary to analyze the security of these transponders to increase the security of such systems. As the protocols involved are in most cases unpublished, it is often a challenge to implement these protocols to allow further research. In this thesis, an RFID reader is developed and a suitable firmware to fully support one of these immobilizer transponder protocols. Furthermore, a survey of the immobilizer market is given and an analysis of a so far unpublished protocol. With the successful realization of this reader board, it is possible to perform side-channel analysis on the transponders.
